iS Clinical Fire & Ice

Some treatments make you look better in a fortnight. This one makes you look better walking out the door.

The iS Clinical Fire & Ice is the treatment we reach for when someone needs to look their absolute best, quickly — and it has earned its nickname as the red carpet facial. It resurfaces, renews and cools the skin in a single visit, leaving you visibly brighter and smoother with no downtime whatsoever. You can have it on your lunch break, put makeup straight over the top, and go to an event that evening.

It's also a properly effective clinical treatment rather than simply a lovely hour. Performed by our Registered Nurses, it works on the signs of ageing, on pigmentation, and on acne — which is why so many of our clients have it regularly rather than only before an occasion.

The Treatment

The name describes exactly what happens.

The fire is a professional resurfacing masque, built around an 18% botanical acid derived from sugar cane. Botanical acids behave very differently to their synthetic equivalents — the result is a thorough resurfacing without the aggression, and without the frosting you might associate with a stronger peel. It also contains niacinamide, which is what drives the warm flush you'll feel and see, and cinnamon extract, which brings both anti-inflammatory benefits and the treatment's distinctive, rather lovely warm scent.

The ice follows: a cooling, deeply hydrating masque containing aloe vera and rosemary, massaged in with chilled glass globes. It is less a beauty step than a therapy — the cold works on microcirculation, drains and de-heats the skin, and leaves it calm, plump and comfortable.

Between and around the two, your nurse will cleanse thoroughly, perform any extractions your skin needs, and include LED light therapy. We finish with iS Clinical serums and SPF chosen for your skin, so you leave protected as well as glowing.

What it feels like

We'd rather tell you honestly than have you surprised.

During the resurfacing masque, most clients feel a mild tingling or prickling — clients often describe it as ants walking across the face. It builds, it's entirely manageable, and it settles the moment your nurse neutralises the masque. Your skin will flush noticeably pink. That's the niacinamide doing its job, it's completely expected, and it settles quickly.

Then the cold masque goes on, and the whole thing becomes genuinely lovely.

Afterwards your skin will look bright and feel smooth and hydrated. There is no peeling, no flaking and no recovery period.

Who it's for

Fire & Ice suits most people, including:

  • The signs of ageing — fine lines, dullness, loss of radiance

  • Pigmentation and uneven skin tone

  • Acne and congestion

  • Anyone with an event, a shoot or a big day coming up

  • Anyone who wants a real result with genuinely no downtime

It's safe during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, which makes it one of the very few clinical resurfacing treatments we can offer expectant and new mums.

It isn't right for everyone. Fire & Ice is a resurfacing treatment, and it isn't the gentle option. We don't recommend it if your skin barrier is compromised or highly sensitive, or if your skin is currently sunburnt or windburnt. If that's you, say so at your consultation — we have gentler treatments that will serve you far better, and your nurse will guide you to the right one.

How often should I have it?

Many clients have Fire & Ice as a one-off before an occasion, and that works beautifully.

If you're treating something specific — acne, pigmentation, or the early signs of ageing — we recommend starting with three treatments, two weeks apart. That six-week run gives the skin a concentrated period of renewal and is where you'll see the real change, particularly alongside the right home care.

After that, most clients maintain their results with a treatment every four to six weeks.

Want more from it?

Fire & Ice is also the first stage of Tighten & Tone, one of our Signature Treatments. Paired with RF skin tightening in the same visit, you get the resurfacing and glow of the facial plus genuine firming underneath — still with no pain and no downtime. It's $650, and it's the treatment we most often recommend as a gift.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Fire & Ice facial painful?

No. Most clients feel a mild tingling or prickling during the resurfacing masque — often described as ants walking across the skin — which builds gently and stops as soon as the masque is neutralised. The cooling masque that follows is genuinely pleasant. Tell your nurse how you're feeling at any point and she'll adjust.

Is there any downtime?

None. Your skin will flush pink during the treatment and settle quickly afterwards. There's no peeling or flaking, and you can apply makeup and carry on with your day immediately — which is exactly why it's known as the red carpet facial.

Can I have it while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes. Fire & Ice is safe during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, and it's one of very few clinical resurfacing treatments we can offer at that time. Let your nurse know at your consultation so she can tailor the finishing products accordingly.

Can I have it the day of an event?

Yes. It's designed for exactly that. Your skin will be bright and smooth with no recovery period, and makeup goes straight over the top. If you'd prefer a little more margin, the day before is equally good.

How is it different from a Hydrafacial?

A Hydrafacial deeply cleanses, extracts and hydrates using vortex technology. Fire & Ice resurfaces with a professional acid masque, then cools and calms. Both give you an immediate glow with no downtime — Fire & Ice does more resurfacing, a Hydrafacial does more deep cleansing. Your nurse will recommend the right one at your consultation.

Who performs the treatment?

Every Fire & Ice facial at our Canberra clinic is performed by a Registered Nurse, working within their scope of practice.
